Designing Your Space for Happiness

We believe that good design does more than look beautiful—it actively enhances how people feel within a space. That’s why we focus on creating environments that foster calm, comfort, and joy.

As a Danish brand, we understand that happiness is deeply rooted in the spaces we inhabit. The connection between environment and wellbeing is at the core of our design philosophy, and something we see echoed throughout our work with trade partners around the globe.

A recent survey from The Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen revealed that 73% of people who feel happy in their homes feel happy in life overall. While this data reflects private living spaces, the same principle applies to commercial environments. Whether you’re designing a hotel lobby, show apartment or workspace lounge, the way a space is crafted—its form, texture, flow and light—has a tangible impact on how people feel.

So how do we design spaces for happiness? Here are six key principles that guide us—and can guide you, too.

1. Design with emotion in mind

Design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about how a space makes you feel when you enter it. We create furniture that balances timeless Danish simplicity with the warmth and personality that makes a space feel inviting. From the smooth curves of a sofa to the sensory richness of tactile fabrics, we help you create environments that speak to people emotionally, not just visually.

2. Make space for calm

From wellness suites to breakout zones, tranquillity is a growing priority across sectors. One of the simplest ways to cultivate calm is to bring nature into the space—through biophilic design, natural light, and layout. We design pieces that sit harmoniously next to windows, open balconies, or courtyards, helping you frame the outdoors as part of the interior experience.

3. Create moments of intimacy

In Danish culture, we have the concept of hygge—moments of comfort, calm and connection. Whether it’s a window seat in a hotel suite or a reading nook, we encourage our partners to design spaces where people can slow down. Our modular seating, cosy textiles and layered lighting solutions help define these intimate corners with purpose and style.

4. Celebrate character through curation

No two projects are the same, which is why we support our trade clients in expressing identity through personalised interiors. From open shelving units to statement chairs, our collections are designed to be styled with local art, books, and collected objects—elements that reflect the personality of the end user, the location, or the brand itself. Design should tell a story.

5. Balance eclecticism with clean lines

One of our core strengths is creating a refined, timeless foundation—allowing designers to layer in eclectic or site-specific elements with ease. Our pieces are elegant and streamlined, making them versatile enough to integrate with everything from bold artwork to heritage architecture. It’s this balance between the structured and the personal that defines our interiors.

6. Use colour and texture to elevate mood

Colour plays a vital role in emotional wellbeing. We work with a rich palette of tones and materials—from soft pastels to deep neutrals, bouclé to leather—to give you the tools to shift the energy of a space. Whether it’s injecting vibrancy into a communal lounge or bringing warmth to a reception area, we help you build spaces that uplift.
