OUR ICON: THE IMOLA CHAIR
Today we would like to put a spotlight on our most iconic piece: The Imola chair.
Just like all major design houses have their standout piece that they become famous for, BoConcept is no different. Vitra has its famous Eames chair, Volkswagen has its iconic Beatle car, Alessi has its unique Juicy Salif Juicer… BoConcept has its Imola chair.
Over the years our Imola has attracted a bit of celebrity attention and even appeared in the occasional blockbuster movie. It is our icon for good reason; from the striking details to the graceful sweeps of its curves, the Imola armchair is a true stand-out design. Roomy enough to curl up in, yet so elegant it doesn’t seem over the top, the Imola armchair is an instant classic and ready to make a statement in any space.
The strict organic shapes combined with the moulded foam offer a unique and outstanding look. The high back gives the chair a voluminous look that underlines the uniqueness of the design while providing great head support. A perfect example of ‘form vs function’ in perfect balance.
The Imola was designed by Henrik Pedersen, whose inspiration for the chair came from a tennis ball. When you look at the side of the seat you clearly see the same shapes and lines as in the tennis ball while the stitching completes the look. Henrik Pedersen is the experienced designer behind many of our designs, including armchairs, tables, sofas and lamps. Henrik Pedersen has always been inspired by seeing things up close and the smaller details. This is evident in the unexpected curves of his designs.
The Imola chair demonstrates true craftsmanship, manufactured in a way that is a difficult and time-consuming process. One that only a few highly trained upholsters are able to undertake. The core of Imola is made of moulded hard foam, enabling us to create unique shapes. The hard foam is then supplemented with another mould of soft foam to make the chair as comfortable as it is beautiful. The chair is then upholstered in the preferred fabric or leather, depending on the individual selection of its new owner.
