Restorative Workspaces

Written by BoConcept Trade & Contract | Jul 4, 2023 11:45:00 AM

A restorative workspace can promote restoration and a respite from stress or mental fatigue, reducing the risk of burnout. By providing an environment where employees can have space to recharge and refocus, you can influence the overall performance of your team.

Embrace the new hybrid way of home/office working by introducing a hybrid environment that optimises comfort and privacy along with collaboration and productivity

In the ‘post-pandemic-return-to-the-office’ the need is greater than ever to provide a workspace that supports the well-being of its employees, adjusting to the new way of working in which people have become accustomed to, aligning productivity with comfort. It doesn’t have to be an extreme makeover to make a difference. Introducing some key home comforts, with the same consideration in which you would in a home, can have a great impact.

Encourage employees to stay focused and productive by prioritizing reflection, rejuvenation and recovery within the workplace.

In the same way that we create areas or ‘zones’ for various activities within our homes, the same should be done within the workspace. Dedicating spaces to certain tasks and activities throughout the day can provide the right change of scenery to focus on the task in hand. For example, an informal social space for collaborative meetings requiring creativity, or a serene desk space for those times when privacy and calmness is required to get the job done.

Optimising natural light within a workspace can influence productivity and enhance restorative capabilities

The introduction of natural elements, in all senses, can greatly impact the mood within a space. This is common knowledge these days and we are now particularly good at doing so within our homes but should also hold this with high importance within our workspaces. We are not just talking a couple of indoor plants here… introducing natural elements in the form of organic shapes, textures and materials. Botanical scents, raw timbers and as much natural light as possible. Evoking a sense of calmness.

The benefits of investing in a restorative workspace can help retain staff, motivate staff and attract new talent

Some of these small design factors can ignite the sense of home that workers have become accustomed to whilst still encouraging presence in a collaborative workspace. Investing a few key changes can result in a motivated and productive workforce that is here to stay!
