In luxury hospitality, exceptional design is about more than aesthetics. The most memorable spaces create an emotional connection, offering guests an experience that feels both aspirational and deeply personal. This philosophy sits at the heart of The Royal Suite at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel in Gothenburg, a project conceived by acclaimed Swedish designer Lars Wallin.
Designed as a sophisticated retreat for extended stays, entertaining and relaxation, The Royal Suite demonstrates how thoughtful interiors can blur the boundaries between hotel accommodation and residential living. Featuring a bedroom, lounge, dining space, kitchen, walk-in wardrobe and private sauna, the suite has been carefully curated to deliver comfort without compromising on elegance.

Creating a home away from home
For Lars Wallin, the ambition was clear from the outset: to create a suite that genuinely feels like home.
Rather than focusing solely on luxury, the design centres on comfort, warmth and functionality. The result is a space that adapts effortlessly to different moments throughout the day, whether guests are working, entertaining friends or simply enjoying a quiet evening in refined surroundings.
A carefully balanced palette of deep reds, soft pinks and rich brown tones establishes an inviting atmosphere, while layered materials and tactile finishes contribute to a sense of calm and wellbeing. Every design decision works together to create an environment that feels both welcoming and elevated.

The balance between calm and surprise
Throughout his career, Lars Wallin has become known for creating timeless designs that still evoke emotion and excitement. This same approach informed the design direction of The Royal Suite.
Reflecting on his creative process, Lars explains:
"In my interior design, I try to create a harmony that creates a calm, but also that there are surprises that create a wow. I try to oscillate between the calm and euphoric."
This philosophy is evident throughout the suite. Clean architectural lines and balanced compositions provide a sense of order, while carefully selected details introduce moments of visual interest and discovery. The result is an environment that feels sophisticated yet approachable, luxurious yet comfortable.
For hospitality designers, it serves as a valuable reminder that memorable guest experiences often emerge from subtle contrasts rather than overt statements.

A collaborative approach to bespoke design
A defining aspect of the project was the opportunity to create furniture solutions that reflected Lars Wallin's personal design vision.
Having collaborated together previously, the partnership evolved beyond specification into a truly creative dialogue. Working closely with Lars allowed us to explore new possibilities through custom upholstery selections and bespoke finishes tailored specifically to the project.
The Salamanca sofa became a central feature within the social area, upholstered in fabrics personally selected by Lars to complement the suite's overall palette and atmosphere. Alongside it, the Adelaide chair and Hauge barstool contribute flexibility and functionality while maintaining a cohesive design language throughout the space.
For Lars, the ability to influence material selections opened new creative opportunities:
"I have worked with BoConcept before and I know that they deliver in terms of quality and timeless design, but this time I also got to be part of the design and influence the fabric choices with my own fabric choices. It opened up a new world for me and created unlimited possibilities."
The project highlights the value of collaboration in hospitality design, where furniture becomes more than a specification item and instead forms an integral part of the overall guest experience.

Design with shape, balance and timelessness
Interestingly, Lars reveals that the bar was one of the first elements he envisioned when designing the suite.
Drawing parallels between fashion and interiors, he describes how principles that guide his couture work continue to influence his approach to spatial design.
"I try to work with a lot of lines and balance with cuts in my clothes. It's probably the same way I'm trying to transfer it to interior design."
This connection between fashion and interiors can be seen throughout the suite, where proportion, silhouette and balance play a crucial role in shaping the overall experience. Every piece has been selected not only for its individual aesthetic qualities but also for how it contributes to the wider composition of the space.
The result is a design that feels contemporary while retaining a timeless quality—what Lars describes as "timeless elegance with attitude."

As guest expectations continue to evolve, hospitality environments are increasingly drawing inspiration from residential design principles. Travellers are seeking spaces that offer comfort, authenticity and emotional connection alongside premium amenities and services.
The Royal Suite demonstrates how these aspirations can be successfully realised through thoughtful collaboration, bespoke detailing and a shared commitment to exceptional design.
For us, the project represents more than the specification of furniture. It reflects the power of partnership and the importance of understanding the unique vision behind every space.
The Royal Suite is ultimately a celebration of timeless design, personal expression and meaningful hospitality—an environment where elegance meets the warmth of home.
