Inside BoConcept HQ: Redefining Office Spaces

In 1952, Jens Ærthøj and Tage Mølholm, two young Danish cabinetmakers, started our furniture business with the dream of bringing quality furniture to more people. Today, this is BoConcept.

At BoConcept, our actions speak as loudly as our words. As a global furniture retailer, we strive to share our flexible interior design service. Through various campaigns, we showcase how to customise spaces without sacrificing design or aesthetics. But it's not just talk; we live by these principles.

Our headquarters in Herning, Denmark, has been our home since 1962. Today, around 85 people work in an environment as adaptable as our furniture. We embrace ‘Activity-Based Working’ (ABW), a concept from the 80s and 90s, to ensure our workspace fosters creativity, productivity, and comfort.

Paula McGuinness, our Chief Marketing Officer, highlights the success of our transition to this new office structure. She emphasises the benefits of proper implementation, noting that most employees would not return to traditional work setups after experiencing ABW.

ABW aligns with our belief in the impact of interior surroundings on well-being. In Herning, if you need quiet, you can work in the ‘Library’. For discussions or brainstorming, you head to the ‘Collab & Project Room’. ABW empowers you to choose your ideal work environment, enhancing productivity and promoting cross-functional collaboration.

In Denmark, our culture of flat hierarchies thrives through ABW. Everyone, from top management to student workers, embraces ABW principles, fostering knowledge sharing and relationship building. One day, you might sit next to the CEO discussing business performance; the next, you are gaining insights into product design.
