With over a decade of experience at BoConcept, Alessio Maiolino’s journey reflects a deep and evolving understanding of the brand—one shaped not only by design expertise, but by hands-on experience across multiple facets of the business.

Joining BoConcept in 2013 as a Design Consultant at Selfridges in London, shortly after graduating from Politecnico di Milano in Industrial and Interior Design, Alessio began his career at the intersection of creativity and client engagement. An early role within an architecture and design studio in Monza laid the groundwork for a career that would come to balance creative vision with commercial awareness—an essential combination within the Contract & Trade sector.

From retail to trade leadership

Over the years, Alessio has moved fluidly through roles spanning design, business development, training, and contract leadership. Today, as Head of Design for BoConcept UK’s Contract & Trade division, he leads the delivery of tailored interior solutions for developers, operators, and design professionals. His work brings together spatial planning, furniture specification, and high-impact visual storytelling—ensuring each project is both conceptually strong and commercially viable.

A collaborative approach at every project

Central to Alessio’s approach is collaboration. Working closely with internal teams and external partners alike—from architects and interior designers to asset managers and end users—he ensures that every stakeholder is aligned from concept through to completion. The goal is always consistent: to deliver spaces that are visually compelling, while grounded in functionality, comfort, and real-world usability.

What continues to inspire him is BoConcept’s design DNA. Rooted in Danish heritage, the brand is defined by its balance of functionality and refined aesthetics, offering a high level of customisation alongside a commitment to craftsmanship. Its collections respond to the realities of modern, urban living—whether that means optimising compact spaces or creating warm, ‘hygge’-inspired environments that prioritise comfort and wellbeing.

Collaborations with internationally recognised designers including Morten Georgsen, Anders Nørgaard, Claudio Bellini, and Bjarke Ingels Group further strengthen this design language—ensuring it remains both globally relevant and distinctly Scandinavian.

Design highlights

Among Alessio’s personal highlights is the Milano sofa—an expression of relaxed Italian elegance within BoConcept’s modular system. With its soft curves, deep seating, and low proportions, it offers a more emotional, lounge-led experience, encouraging users to slow down and settle in. Its flexibility also allows it to transition effortlessly across residential and hospitality environments.

Equally iconic is the Imola armchair. Sculptural yet inviting, its organic form challenges traditional geometry while delivering exceptional comfort. Created through a highly specialised upholstery process, it represents the intersection of innovation and craftsmanship—two qualities that sit at the core of BoConcept’s identity.
